Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. – Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT
Trust and seek; He will show you the way. Simple right? But how can we trust and seek Him if we are not focusing on Him. If our thoughts are far away from God then we won’t be able to see the path that He is pointing us towards. We will spin and circle and lose our way. Frustration, fear, and anxiety will set in.
By thinking we have to go it alone or figure it all out by ourselves we are depending on our own understanding, but the Bible tells us that is exactly what not to do. We don’t see the full picture, we don’t have the wide-angle lens to our lives, we just get to see what’s right in front of us. So, if we are plugging along, focused on trying to make sense of what we see around us instead of on the Guide who is more familiar with our surroundings than we are; that’s when we tend to get lost. But if we turn our focus to the One who not only has walked this path before us, but was the One who designed the map of the road, we can trust that He will show us where to safely step.
When our eyes are on the path and constantly concerned with which way to go and where to place our feet and how to make it to the next step, instead of on the One who has laid it out for us, it’s easy to become weighed down with trepidation and miss the beautiful sights along the way. But with our eyes locked on the One who knows the road, we can be assured we will travel the direction He wants us to go, all while carrying a much lighter load. The path should never be our focus, it should always be on the One who is journeying with us. Don’t look down at your feet, but up at the One who holds our hand.
Remember, the path is not the prize, the journey and the ultimate destination with the One who walks with us are the purpose of the trip.
