Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you, he will neither fail you nor abandon you. -Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT
Have you ever been in one of those big corn mazes that are popular at fall festivals? You know the ones where the designer of the maze has strategically cut a path in a big field of towering corn with turns and dead ends, but ultimately with just one way out. To the average festival goer who enters, the giant corn stalks line the bumpy path while reaching higher than the eye can see, which results in a lot of wrong turns. It usually plays out something like this: the adventurous person walks this way and that, “Oops dead end”, so they turn. “Wait, I think I’ve already gone this way,” they turn again. “I think I have it now…nope wrong turn again.” Soon, more people file into the maze and it’s becoming more crowded, with people turning and bumping into one another as everyone is searching to find just the right way to go. Depending on the time of day or the complexity of the maze, it can become discouraging, and even nerve-racking at times feeling that they won’t be able to find their way out without help.
Just like the silly corn maze, when we try to get through life without a guide or any help, more than likely we will have times of struggle and even feel like we are limping along. But imagine if the designer of the maze offered to go through it with us reassuring us that if we needed help he would be there. Wouldn’t that be comforting, make the maze less scary, and less discouraging. Instead of fretting that we keep getting turned around and repeating the same wrong paths, we trust the one leading us through.
The incredible gift that we have is that the ultimate Designer is with us, who is offering to walk through the maze of our lives right there by our side. He is encountering all of the unknowns and twists and turns before we get to them. God is promising He won’t leave us, and He won’t fail to get us to our destination. We just have to simply take Him up on His offer and keep our eyes locked on Him for the way to go. If we follow closely to the One who knows the way, He will reveal the correct path for us. If we have our eyes fixed on Him, then the dead ends and wrong turns along the way will become less distracting because our eyes are solely on the One who knows the way.
So today, if life has been feeling like a crazy maze that keeps presenting dead ends and wrong turns, look to the One who can lead the way along the right path. Trust that He is there and that when our eyes are on Him, He will take care of the rest.
