“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. -John 14:1 NLT
Trust is one of the most important, if not THE most important, aspects of a relationship. Once it’s lost it is excruciatingly difficult to get back, and even if we feel like it did come back, there may always linger doubts in the back of our minds. With that being said, the greatest relationship we will ever form with someone is our relationship with Jesus. It’s personal, it can never be taken away, and best of all we can trust Him completely. We can trust Him with every single detail of our lives.
If we look to the world or our other relationships here on earth, we can certainly be troubled from time to time. Even the best marriages and best friendships have challenging moments. But if our eyes are on Jesus, on who He is, and how much He loves us, we can rest our troubled hearts. We can trust that He has a good future for us, and we can trust that He is holding us closely in the safety and security of His arms.
If you are a new Christian, it may seem difficult to trust Him with your everything, but that can be remedied the closer you get to Him. The deeper we know Him through prayer and reading His word, the deeper and more real our trust in Him becomes. Think about it this way, if you never talk to someone, you never read any emails or texts that they have written you, you never make an effort to get to know them or spend time with them, are you automatically going to trust that person? Probably not. They are in essence a total stranger, and I don’t know about you but I tend not to automatically trust strangers. But if we wake up and greet Him, talk to Him, read His letters to us, ask His advice, and sit quietly with Him, we will begin to know Him deeper than any other relationship that we have. But it starts with us taking that step towards Him. He is already there holding out His hand of companionship to us, but we have to make the effort to meet His reach and focus on growing that relationship so the trust can develop.
Our hearts can find troubles pretty easily in this day and age. But the key to releasing the troubles of our hearts lies in trusting the One who created us, the One who has His focus on us. Trust Him, cling to Him, and don’t let go, He has a plan for you and will walk with you side-by-side every step of the way.
