So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. -Hebrews 4:16 NLT
One of the many amazing things about our Lord, is that He welcomes us to His throne. We are not kept at a distance or held back by royal guards. No, we can come right to Him because of the work of Jesus and enter into His presence. We can openly speak with Him, ask questions of Him, and He even welcomes our complaints or sorrows. When we need help the most, God is there. We don’t have to go it alone, power through, or even think for a moment that He won’t be by our side. We can come boldly to Him no matter what we are facing. That means with confidence He hears us and will certainly give us what is best for us during those times.
But coming to Him only when we think we need Him and then going off on our own again when things are going good in our lives, is not the way. We need Him in the good times and the bad. Building a strong relationship with someone isn’t done by only coming to them when you need something from them but then ignoring them the rest of the time. No, building that unshakable, undeniable, unquestioning relationship with Jesus is done through constant communication with Him. Bringing the big stuff as well as the little things to Him, praising Him when the blessings rain down, and holding strong with Him despite any perceived droughts are the ways our relationships are strengthened.
God wants us to lean on Him when we need it most, but we need to approach the throne, we need to reach out to Him. We need to come to Him through prayer, and when we are in His peace-filled loving presence we need to actively stay there and not let our focus slip away to the cares of this life. In His presence, when our eyes have adjusted from the blurriness of the world around us, we can begin to see Him clearly.
