And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. – John 8:32 NLT
How often do we believe the lies we hear in our heads? The ones that tell us we aren’t good enough, smart enough, pretty enough, or successful enough. The ones that tell us we will never get better, or stronger, or be an overcomer. The ones that tell us we aren’t loved, we are alone, and no one cares about us. Sadly, I think the answer is far too often.
Instead of sitting back and letting the negative thoughts poison our minds, we can do something about it, we can take action. One of the best ways I have found to combat the lies that attack me, is to speak truth over them and speak the truth tenfold. For instance, when my son has said something negative about himself, which as a mother, pains me to my core, I have him say out loud ten things that are great about himself. By doing this we not only recognize the toxic words that are not from God, but we then hear our own voices speak the truth over ourselves. The truth holds power.
Here are some examples of the truth:
You are not a loser, you are loved.
It doesn’t matter what position you hold in this life because you have a place in heaven.
You are forgiven, you are loved, you are set apart, and you are His.
You are not broken and rejected, you are whole and cared for through Jesus.
Staying close to Jesus, by shifting our focus from the thoughts the world wants us to believe, to Him, His word, and His truth, can set us free from the lies that seem to fly at us from every angle. When we are bombarded with negative, combat that with truth. We each have an immeasurable amount of value, and staying close to Jesus, letting Him show you what you are worth, and revealing the truth to you among the deluge of lies, will truly set you free. Go to Him, present Him with the lies you have believed and let Him strip them away one by one to nothingness, so that all that remains is His great love for you and the truth of who you really are.
