I will be your God throughout your lifetime-until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you. – Isaiah 46:4 NLT
Creating a deep, rock-solid, eyes-locked on each other type of relationship with Jesus isn’t something that will be here one day and gone the next. Sadly, relationships amongst people sometimes are like this though, as they crumble and disappear. Marriages break up, families are divided, friendships end, and loved ones pass away. People are flawed and as a result, our relationships have flaws as well. But creating a lasting relationship from start to finish is possible with Jesus.
God was the One who created us, He knows our hearts deeper than anyone else, He has watched us grow up, and will continue to care for us “until your hair is white with age.” Having Jesus as the closest relationship of our lives will also be the one relationship that will never change. We don’t have to worry about Him leaving us, betraying us, or deciding He doesn’t want to be with us anymore. We don’t have to worry about having disagreements with Him, and He is always there to listen. When we can’t go on within our own strength, He will carry us. When we are lost and confused, He will be there to guide and save us.
Even though we can’t physically sit down with God and talk over a cup of coffee, doesn’t mean that we should treat the relationship with Him as any less real. Just like a bond with your best friend from college or that other mom you met at church, it will only grow when we spend time on it.
So today, make it a point to read your Bible, pray to God, and talk to Him like He’s already your best friend that you’re just having a chat with. The more time we spend focusing on Him and who He is, the closer we will become and the deeper we will grow.
