My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.” – Psalm 27:8 NLT
When a creator makes something, be it a wood worker crafting a table, a potter making a clay bowl, or an artist painting an unbelievably intricate portrait, they know the ins and out of it. The person who made the creation knows all the complex details and how it all came together. The creator can recognize their work from a mile away and knows all the areas of the creation that someone else just wouldn’t know about. In the same way, God knows everything about us, and we have been hard-wired to hear from God and to pray to Him. We have a connection to our Creator that is deeper than any other relationship we will ever know. Our hearts naturally want to draw close to Him, but it’s also in us to go it our own way and to not make time with Him a priority.
But like any true friend, God wants to talk with us. He wants to hear everything we are going through, yes, He already knows, but He wants to hear from us anyway. Think of it this way, even if our family members know what is happening in our lives via word of mouth or from a social media post, they still want to receive that phone call from us to hear our voices and to catch up. With the knowledge that God wants us to spend time with Him in prayer, we still have to be the ones that consciously make the choice to respond to Him, “Lord, I am coming”. God can invite us through that tug on our hearts to talk, to share, to seek Him, but we have to be the ones who respond to that invitation and make Him our confidant. He won’t force us to be with Him, He won’t force us to seek Him, He won’t force us to build that friendship He knows we can have. He is there waiting for us to respond and come.
So today, let your heart respond to God the way that it already wants to. Share with Him everything you are going through, seek His help and guidance, but most of all praise Him. Shift the focus of your mind to be building a deeper relationship with the One who wants to be a part of your life.
