“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” -Revelation 3:20 NLT
What could be better than sitting down and sharing a relaxing meal with a close trusted friend? Someone who always has your back, that you can confide in with all of your deepest secrets, and one that you can always turn to for help and encouragement. A friend that you can laugh with and with whom you can truly be yourself. Well, that friend is exactly what God wants to be for us. And He isn’t far away where we have to call to Him and wait for Him to hear the call then respond. He is at the door right now waiting to be let into our everyday lives. For the topic of conversation, there is nothing too big or too small to bring to Him. He cares about it all, and that’s one of my favorite things about Him.
I used to believe the lie that if what I was going through wasn’t huge, then I was wasting His time by bringing it to Him in prayer. Like I would be pulling Him away from a more pressing concern to have to hear me go on about whatever I was dealing with that day. But a lie is exactly what that was. God isn’t limited in any way. He doesn’t walk away from one person to tend to another. He is always there and wants us to bring it all to Him. So, if you’re believing that lie like I was, that you can or should only come to Him when there was a big life altering situation, please unwind the knots that have bound your mind and go to Him. When we have true friendships, they want to hear everything, they want to be a sounding board for us and a true friend would never turn away a conversation with you because it wasn’t important enough.
Open the door and lay it all out to Him, friends. Share you likes and your dislikes, your hopes, dreams, and fears. Trust Him with your heart and let Him guide your path forward. Let Him into every area of your life and praise Him for being the truest and most trusted friend we could ever have.
